Oratory of St. Bede the Venerable

The Oratory of St. Bede the Venerable is the working name for a small but growing community of classical Anglican Christians in Carroll County, Maryland: a location centrally located between Baltimore, MD, Washington, DC, Frederick, MD, and York, PA.

Oratory of St. Bede the Venerable – Mission and Vision

To worship God the Father through His Son, our Lord Jesus Christ, in the power of the Holy Spirit, and to make our Triune God known to others through worship, outreach, and hospitality.

  • Worship: to “worship the Lord in the beauty of holiness” using beautiful, dignified, and reverent liturgy and music drawn from or grounded in our classical Anglican tradition. The Book of Common Prayer 1928 sets the standard for the content of our worship, and excellence sets the standard for our execution of the same.
  • Outreach: to “love our neighbors as ourselves” through participation in projects which benefit others – both those less fortunate, and our community as a whole – and which enable us to practice and promote proper stewardship of this good Earth which God has placed in our care.
    • Outreach toward our fellow humans may include but is not limited to soup kitchens, food pantries, Blessings Closet, the Backpack Project, Project Angel Tree, Operation Christmas Child, and similar programs.
    • Stewardship of Creation may include but is not limited to road-side and stream cleanups, tree-plantings, Bay-Wise certification, and practicing good stewardship of our earthly home in our individual and family lives.
  • Hospitality: to “welcome the stranger” through fellowship suppers, Tea and Garden Parties, Christmas Market, Cookie Walk, Boar’s Head Feast, Spring Herb and Craft Show, St. Hubert’s Blessing, and other events to which the public is warmly welcomed, as well as assuring a welcoming, hospitable presence at worship services. We will not allow ourselves to become the “frozen chosen”!

Author: The Anglophilic Anglican

I am an ordained Anglican clergyman, published writer, former op-ed columnist, and experienced outdoor and informal educator. I am also a traditionalist: religiously, philosophically, politically, and socially. I seek to do my bit to promote and restore the Good, the True, and the Beautiful, in a world which has too-often lost touch with all three, and to help re-weave the connections between God, Nature, and humankind which our techno-industrial civilization has strained and broken.
